HISTORY

Built in 1903 as the curators residence, City Gardens cafe is a heritage listed building, steeped in history.

The original curators cottage was swept away in the devastating floods of 1893. During world war two the building was used as a Ward room for the WRAN officers of HMAS Moreton. Many of the original mess menus can be seen in the dining room.

From 1956 until 1982 Harold William Caulfield, Brisbane's longest serving curator and founder of Mt Coot-tha Botanical Gardens, resided in the cottage.

City Gardens Cafe was then opened on the 7th of September 1989 by the then Lord Mayor Sallyanne Atkinson.

Today, surrounded by manicured lawns and sub-tropical rainforest, City Gardens Cafe offers patrons a unique dining and function experience.
